The Gentler And Genius Revolution In Dog Training

Clicker training has been widely used in zoos, aquariums and circuses for decades. The application of clicker training is to help you to teach your dog to think. The old fashioned way to train a dog is to make your dog to “obey” your order. It does not evolve your dog’s intelligence or problem-solving skills. Unlike the old fashion dog training, the clicker training uses treats and a clicker, training dogs using the method has been proven as the fastest, most reliable way to train your dog and have a good time while you are doing it. The application of the training can simplify and speed up the process of learning for both dogs and the owners.

How Does The Clicker Training Work?

The concept of clicker training is using the sound of the clicking (from a clicker) that is paired with a treat as a reward. The clicker is a small plastic box with a metal tab, it will gives a clicking sound when you push it down. After a few repetitions, the dog will learn to associate the clicker sound with the reward.

The click sound shows the desired behavior from the dog in order to receive a reward. Basically, you remove the treat step when you agree with your dog behavior. Your dog will work for the sound of the click rather than a food reward. This is the most effective way to communicate with your dog what behaviors are rewardable. Using food as a reward is much faster than using toys or games but soon after your dog learns to associate the sound of a click, you can replace foods with toys, balls, tugs or other things.
